• Consider mksquashfs block size improvements from fedora
• Examine these options for mksquashfs (in order):

-no-sparse -no-fragments -no-duplicates -quiet -no-progress -noappend -no-recovery

• squashfs-tools compresses manpages by default before installing them, so check that as well
