  • No /var/db (deprecated; a BSD relic that has been replaced with /var/lib)
  • /var/lock is a compatibility symlink to ../run/lock (/run/lock)
  • /var/run is a compatibility symlink to ../run (/run)
  • /var/spool/mail is a compatibility symlink to ../mail (/var/mail)
